Our Iowa City Sunday breakfasts have taken a turn for the better since we found The Wedge. We never know what the “special” might be, but whatever it is, I order it most Sundays. Last Sunday it was a Bacon Florentine concoction like Eggs Benedict, with perfectly poached eggs, caramelized onions, bacon, and fresh steamed spinach on an English muffin. It was topped with their signature creamy dill sauce that is absolutely fantastic. And their “side” of fruit is a thing of beauty…never mind fresh and healthy!
After I finished breakfast, I spent a few minutes talking to (and complimenting) the chefs…and now I know why their food is so good. When you mention the amazing menu items to anyone working in their kitchen..their eyes light up and huge smiles spread across their faces. You can tell when people cook with PASSION…and the cooks at The Wedge really do.
In fact, when I asked where the inspiration comes from for their inventive dishes, one of the chefs pulled a tattered copy of the book The Joy Of Cooking off the shelf…Just as I suspected…the JOY of cooking!
So whether you choose the “breakfast special” or a regular menu item…just wait for your eyes to light up and a smile to spread across your face. (It’s that PASSION and JOY…and it’s contagious…and DELICIOUS!)
