Autumn in Iowa is beautiful…and recently I decided to get out of the kitchen and go for a walk. But not just a walk around the neighborhood…I took a walk on the WILD side. And a beautiful walk it was!
I jumped in the car and took a five minute drive to the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area here in Iowa City…a place I had only visited when it was being constructed several years ago. (I know…I haven’t done much exploring lately…even in my own back yard!)
I was AMAZED at the beautiful surroundings…and I only wish we had gone there this summer, when all of the facilities were open and in use.
There is even a place to rent paddle boats…
The bees were enjoying these late blooming flowers…
There is even a snack bar (called H2O) in the boat house…Now closed for the season…
I wish I had stopped by for lunch this summer. (You know you’re in Iowa when a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich is the first item listed on the menu…)
It was a wonderful walk in the great outdoors…And a new discovery only minutes from home.
A great reminder that some road trips don’t even require packing a suitcase!

We taught our kids how to ride their bikes on that nice, wide path!

What a beautiful place to learn to ride a bike! And what great family memories I'm sure you all created there. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful! We met some friends at the park this summer. It's small, but was the perfect place! We were the only people there for a while and the kids really had to work at climbing. The sand boxes were a big hit… until matchbox cars got lost! 🙂
