Today was Opening Day for Lucky’s Market in Iowa City…
And I walked through the door with no preconceived idea of what to expect.
So as I entered the store, the first word that came to mind was…WOW!!!
For a Foodie like me…this is better than Disney World!!!
Obviously, the HUGE store was packed today on opening day…but I snapped these photos of the items that caught my eye during my quick walkabout…
The variety of fresh fruits and vegetables (many organic) is amazing…and the prices are LOW, as promised.
Everything looks and smells FRESH…REALLY FRESH…
The Juice Bar offered many choices…
And their “door buster” ground beef sale today was too good to pass up!
The Meat Counter was well stocked with fresh and unique items…
The Seafood Counter smelled fresh, and I was going to buy a pound of their peeled and deveined raw shrimp for $5.99…but I noticed they were shipped from India so I passed for today…
One of my MOST excited moments came in front of the Deli when I saw they stock La Quercia Prosciutto from Norwalk, Iowa! These smoked meat Iowa Grown products are turning up in the fanciest restaurants in America. (Chef Mario Batali raves about their products.)
Their Bakery is next to the Deli…so you can get any kind of sandwich made while you wait…
The variety of bread options seemed almost endless…and the prices again were amazingly low.
The two-sided Salad Bar made my mouth water!
(I know where I plan to go for Lunch VERY soon!)
This sign pretty much sums up the store’s philosophy…
So…you can build your own meal and then head to the “Cafe” to sit down and savor your selections…
And there is a clearly outlined recycling method in the store…
And today they were giving out samples of their California Sushi Rolls…DELICIOUS!
Even though they used Imitation Crab…I would buy this package for $6.99…
And THIS sign make me think I might have died and gone to Heaven…
SIP and STROLL????
Waahoooo!!! I’M IN!!!
(I could spend HOURS wandering around this place…with or without a drink!)
And as I was leaving the store, I noticed this sign. It seems that Lucky’s Market expects to be in our community for the long haul…and they plan to give back as they grow their business.
That’s a WIN-WIN situation for ALL of us. (In fact, one of their management team members told me by January they hope that 10% of the products sold in their store will be Iowa products.)
So Lucky’s…Welcome to Iowa City…and welcome to Iowa! We’re glad you came…and I’m pretty sure you’ll be glad you came, too!
