About four hours North of Fort Lauderdale is one of our favorite spots to stop for lunch…
The Blackwater Inn at Astor Park.
And today we were NOT alone! (There must have been some Senior Citizen’s Hell’s Angels convention nearby. Just sayin…)
We love to stop here for lunch since they have a quirky little outdoor dining area on the second floor.
And it overlooks the beautiful St. Johns River…
And the tiny drawbridge…
And the most fascinating thing about this spot is this…
We could board one of these vessels at this restaurant and cruise all the way down that river…and park the boat at our very own dock twenty feet from our door in Fort Lauderdale! (This river IS the Intracoastal Waterway that flows by FlipFlops!)
The trees and Spanish moss make this a beautiful spot to stop and unwind for a few minutes.
I was happy to see the Lunch Special on the menu on Friday was…FISH & CHIPS. And turns out the fresh fish was GROUPER…one of my favorites…And the price for this platter?
Only $6.99…for a Grouper Dinner! (I just realized when I loaded this picture…think the server forgot my Cole slaw since I did see some of those “Hell’s Angel Seniors” eating the same lunch…plus slaw.) Oh well…the kitchen was SWAMPED with orders all at once since I think there was also a tour bus in the parking lot when we walked in. So I’ll cut them some slack on this one…I certainly had PLENTY of food…and calories!
My lunch even included a homemade Hush Puppy…
but it actually tasted more like a Beignet, since it was dusted with powdered sugar.
Fred ordered a small salad…really good…and loaded with “stuff”. (His rainbow on a plate.)
And a big ol’ burger…cooked to order…
I was a little disappointed with my fish, since it was somewhat undercooked…but the flavor was good.
So after a leisurely lunch in a laid back location we headed on North…with Georgia on my mind…
