Game Day in Minnesota dawned with 20 mph winds and fast moving clouds. The cold and gloomy morning should have been a warning about the game that was to come.
But after a good night of restful sleep at the University Inn, we dressed in FOUR LAYERS of clothing and waddled down the street to a place we knew would serve a GREAT breakfast…Tony’s Diner. (We’ve eaten there before…they make the best Denver Omelet in Dinkytown.)
Tony’s was PACKED before the game, but we snagged two seats at the counter by the front window. It was an awesome place to enjoy our breakfast and to “people watch”.
The murals on the walls in Dinkytown tell a story…
And HOW did Dinkytown get it’s name? There are many theories…so check out this link…and choose your own version to believe.
Directly across the street from Tony’s Diner is the old Loring Drug Store…and the apartment above the sign is reported to be the former home of singer Bob Dylan during his one semester at the University of Minnesota in the 1960’s.
So after some serious people-watching and a delicious breakfast we headed to the stadium…
The pre-game fly-over was the highlight of the game. (Sad, but true for these Hawkeye fans…)
And the game? You ask…
WHAT GAME??? My husband has attended EVERY Iowa vs Minnesota football game for the past 42 years…and this was the FIRST AND ONLY time he has left early!!!

Hi there!! May I use your review about Tony’s Diner to put on their social media? I think it would be nice for customers to see!
Thanks!

Hi Madolyn! Yes you may, and thank you so much for asking! I hope we get to return to Dinkytown someday…and Tony’s Diner will sure be on our radar if and when we do! Stay safe and well!
XOXO
