It’s time for Hawkeye Football against the Gophers, and it’s a five hour drive to Dinkytown (a.k.a. Minneapolis), so we looked for a “local” lunch spot along the way…in Pine Island, Minnesota.
And Cathy’s sign proclaimed of having the best burgers in town. So who could pass up a joint with their motto…”Homemade Food That Tastes Like Grandma’s Cooking”. OK…that got us. We stopped.
The cute little place LOOKED like Grandma’s place. (Well…SOMEBODY’S Grandma…) And with all the Autumn decorations, I can only imagine what CHRISTMAS will look like. (Especially the bathroom!)
The gentleman (Cathy’s husband?) who took our order at the counter was friendly and helpful.
Of course we ordered their famous burger and homemade fries…
It wasn’t the best I’ve tasted (the onion flavored burger was well cooked but rather dry, and I don’t think the fries were double fried for crispness) but we were glad to support that dwindling population of Mom and Pop locations…a dying breed.
A cute little spot for a quick lunch…then on the road again, headed NORTH! (Brrr…)
