It must be an Indiana thing.
Tonight Nana and Papa invited us to attend to an outdoor concert at the Gazebo in Carmel…
and we were told it would be a “Pitch-In”.
Turns out that means a “Pot Luck” to those of us from Iowa. And we were asked to bring HOT DOGS!
It was a beautiful evening…in a beautiful city…with beautiful people.
And we marveled at the fact that a HUGE CROWD could all show up with picnic baskets, wine, beer, and soft drinks…with no police in sight! Apparently Carmel residents know how to have fun without “causin’ a ruckus”…
Amazing…and Awesome.
Peepaw and Papa had staked out our turf earlier in the afternoon, and we had a perfect view of the gazebo stage and the entertainment…and our tarp “carpet” made our “living room” a perfect setting for the evening.
And when Nana’s friends began to arrive, the “Pitch-In” began to happen.
Good food and wine began to appear…
The recipe for the delicious quiche cups will appear in a future blog post…but ALL the food was memorable and the setting was perfect…
And here is a view of our son Nick’s workplace…the gorgeous City Hall in Carmel…
(Sometimes I feel like I’m at Church Hill Downs when I look at that building…)
City Hall…Carmel, Indiana |
The entertainment was top notch…
From Nashville, Tennessee…
So…as they used to say in small town newspapers…”Plenty of food and fun was had by all.”
That’s FUN with a capital F…
And Nana and Meemaw enjoyed a few minutes to simply SIT together and TALK…and that’s a rare opportunity for us, since we’re both usually chasing grandkids when we’re together.
If you’ve never experienced a concert outdoors on a summer evening in the Heartland…It’s really a step back in time…to a WONDERFUL time when the world around you felt safe and happy.
And who doesn’t love to watch their grand daughters DANCE!!!
Until they DROP…
So as the evening began to wind down, it’s safe to say we hope this won’t be our last “Pitch-In”…especially since we now know what that means!
(And thanks again for the invitation, Nana and Papa!)
