Bobby Rubino's - Pompano Beach, Florida

You know the old saying…If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is…or maybe it isn’t…sort of!

Last week we enjoyed a great meal…and it didn’t break the bank! For several years we’ve seen coupons in our local paper for a rib place called Bobby Rubino’s. And they offer TWO rib dinners with an appetizer, a side , and a shared dessert…all for $25!

It’s only a short drive to the Pompano restaurant from our condo. We walked in about 6:30pm we felt like we had hit the Frank Sinatra Early Bird lottery! The busy bar was loaded with Seniors, and the Rat Pack crooners were the tunes of choice. The restaurant is a throwback to those bygone days…from the tables and chairs to the decor. But the service was first-rate.

Our waiter was quick to bring a complimentary loaf of warm bread and butter as he took our order.

Then came our appetizer…

YIKES…LOTS of ONIONS!

We got the basic 1/4 onion loaf for starters…and I certainly would NOT want more than that for an appetizer! The onion rings loaf was crispy and hot when it was served.

Then the main course…Nothing fancy…but VERY tasty.

You have your choice of a whole rack of ribs…or a half rack with a quarter chicken. That was my choice.

For dessert? Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Cake, or (Fred’s choice) Chocolate Ice Cream. By the time dessert rolled around I wanted NO PART of it.

So with two iced teas, our bill was about $32 bucks. A good deal on some “stick to your ribs” ribs…a blast from the past, and a flock of snow birds’ choice for a bargain meal. (Just don’t expect to eat a rainbow, since there was nothing green on the menu!)

Now…I think I’ll have a huge salad today.
