We were up with the sun and hungry for breakfast after our overnight stay in Ashland. But you would hardly know the sun existed, judging from this photo I snapped. That blurry object in the sky IS the sun, but the smoke from the nearby forest fires kept it hidden. And there are mountains in the distance too…also hidden by that thick blanket of smoke.
Located in the Rogue River Valley, Ashland is a beautiful city filled with gorgeous flowers. I wish the skies had been clear so I could have totally appreciated the view of the Siskiyou and Cascade mountains, but I guess we’ll just have to go back another time to see things more clearly.
Many of you have probably heard of the Shakespeare festival held every year in Ashland. Click HERE for more information about the festival and the Ashland area.
For breakfast we chose The Waffle Barn, located close to our motel. And that turned out to be a good choice indeed.
Our server Taylor greeted us with a mile-wide smile, and a never ending pot of coffee. What’s not to love about THAT combination?
As you might expect, the decor at the Waffle Barn was country-themed for their country cooking menu.
But the place was super clean and functional.
Our breakfasts were served up quickly and the food was delicious! My scrambled eggs were fluffy and the bacon was thick cut and crispy.
And who could eat at a place called The Waffle Barn without trying a waffle? Not me! That’s real creamery butter and sweet maple syrup oozing into every nook and cranny of that yeasty breakfast treat! That waffle was light as a feather, and a crispy delight.
And that coffee?
The coffee was fresh and served steaming hot. It was a perfect start to our road trip day!
Yes, the sun was barely visible that morning, but we were lucky enough to find our way to The Waffle Barn in Ashland. And after that marvelous breakfast we headed back on the road because we had a reservation for a long-awaited overnight stay in wine country.
And just wait until you see it!
