The other day, hubby and I found ourselves close to the small town of Tiffin, Iowa, just about lunch time…so I called our friend Al, (he lives in Tiffin) and asked him where we should eat.
Tip: ALWAYS ask the “locals” for restaurant recommendations.
Unfortunately, Al was just leaving for an appointment, so he wasn’t able to join us, but he gave us what turned out to be an AWESOME lunchtime recommendation.
Bryant’s Off 6 (as in Highway 6).
I’m glad Al described the restaurant’s location for us, because we had driven right past it before we called him for suggestions. In fact, we thought the whole building was a car wash, thanks to the HUGE car wash sign by the highway!
But once we walked through the door we figured we were in for some good, roadside, pub grub…
The restaurant/bar opened in August, and it’s a Jimmy Buffett sort of place. Really down home and friendly. And that includes the staff! (Both Emily and Bekka were awesome.)
I LOVED the fact that most of the interior was created from reclaimed materials. In fact, the bar owner found an old ramshackle barn in need of demolition, and the owner gave him the materials in exchange for tearing down the barn and cleaning up the site.
I wanted a tenderloin, and our friendly server Emily suggested their homemade onion rings to go with it. So hubby and I decided to split the whole order. And we were glad we did!
Yes…That’s HALF of a Tenderloin! |
The cooks even split the food onto two plates and doubled our pickles. AWESOME!
ONE order was PLENTY for BOTH of us!
I had to chuckle when I saw chicken house warming lights being used as heat lamps for the food…
And the bathroom doors were marked with cut-up licence plates that spelled WOMENS and MENS.
All in all it was a GREAT lunch served by FRIENDLY PEOPLE in a REALLY COOL PLACE.
Another “road trip” success!
(Thanks again, Al…and we’ll meet YOU there next time!)
