Recently we met some friends in downtown Iowa City, and we decided to try a new place for dinner. We walked into Cactus…or at least we TRIED to walk in…but there was a line waiting outside the door. Most of the people in line were college kids, so I asked them if the food was worth the wait. One young man was quick to tell me HE was there for the Margueritas! While we waited in line I noticed a sign on the wall that certainly explained why so many young people were eating there that night…It was DOLLAR TACO NIGHT! (College towns are GREAT for food bargains…And parents of those college kids are thrilled to find bargains on ANYTHING.)
We finally found seats at the small bar to wait for a table, and the bartender was quick to send a server over with a basket of warm chips and two salsas for us to try. One was quite spicy and the other a milder version. Both were delicious. And it’s been a LONG time since I had a Marguerita…so I decided to try one, especially since that young man was braving long lines for that reason alone. And I must say…it really was worth the wait. One of our friends tried a strawberry version which she said was equally delicious.
