There are several ways to turn off your tear ducts when you have onions to chop:
1. Make sure your knife is VERY sharp. The smoother it cuts through the onion, the less gasses will be released into the air and into your eyes.
2. Light a candle and place it on your chopping board. The flame does something magical to the onion fumes. No more tears!
3. Try taking a drink of water and holding it in your mouth as you chop. It somehow blocks the onion fumes.
4. When you’re finished chopping, wash your hands and then rub them on something metal-like your sink or a cooking pot. The onion smell will be virtually gone!
