Our beautiful drive to Domaine Roy et Fils was not without a little excitement.
Don’t say I didn’t warn our friend Candy. When riding in the back seat of a convertible it is very wise to hold onto your hat! So Peepaw made a U-turn on that beautiful country road…and our friend Rick retrieved her lost visor!
After a hearty laugh and a few more miles of wind in our hair we arrived at our gorgeous destination.
Domaine Roy et Fils was built in 2012. (et Fils is French for “and son”. Thank heavens for Google since I don’t speak French!) I loved the olive trees that lined the entrance to the tasting room…
This trees reminded me of my wonderful trip to Greece and Italy during the olive harvest…
The interior of the building is absolutely stunning…
Especially the various tasting rooms…each with it’s own special charm…
We were immediately greeted by our host, Jordan, who was stationed in the bar area.
He poured two glasses of wine. One for Rick and one for me. I don’t remember the name of the wine we selected…but we picked the same wine but from two different harvest years…2013 and 2014. We wondered if we would be able to taste the difference.
And was there a difference? Absolutely!
Apparently 2013 became very rainy about the time of the harvest…and 2014 had almost perfect growing conditions. And even a novice wine taster like me to actually taste an almost “musty” flavor in the 2013. It didn’t taste bad. It was just completely different from the 2014 vintage.
And check out the “legs” in this wine!
Sometimes the French call it “tears”. But my studies also tell me it is not an indicator of good or bad wine…it simply means a higher alcohol content in the wine. But no matter what it actually means…it’s beautiful to see the “tears” form on that lovely glass! (That wine glass was completely smooth. All the lines were formed by the wine!)
The Domaine Roy deck was huge…and we were the only visitors at the moment.
What a beautiful spot to sit and ponder the meaning of life. (Or anything else, for that matter.)
Once again, the scenery was spectacular.
Jordan came outside and joined us for a few minutes…and it quickly became clear how much he loves his job, and the people he meets.
It wasn’t long before our stomachs told us it was time for lunch…and Rick and Candy had someplace in mind. So we crawled back in the car and headed for a small town of Dayton nearby. We headed there for a burger…with some history on the side.
