OK…we admit it. We’ve eaten in so many diners and dives, we are now becoming SILVERWARE SNOBS. It seems that diners buy the cheapest silverware they can find, since we’ve been told it tends to disappear into diner’s pockets and purses. (YUCK! How gross!)
Some silverware is so small and lightweight you might expect it to fly away in a gust of wind. And we decided even our own silverware was too lightweight for our taste. So even though we rarely buy ANYTHING at a “regular” store, we decided to invest in a GOOD flatware set…and you just can’t find “the good stuff” at our usual thrift stores.
So I’ve done my homework on silverware and I decided to share my findings with you.
Look for flatware labeled 18/10. Those numbers illustrate the percent of chromium and nickel in the stainless steel. Chromium is a hard metallic substance that helps increase product hardness, and nickel is a silvery metallic element that helps resist corrosion.18/10 stainless steel has 18 % chromium and 10% nickel content. It stands up well to a dishwasher, and it maintains it’s luster.
One thing is for sure…It won’t blow away easily!
Now…what to make for dinner so we can break it in…
