Saving money is a reason for happiness in my book. And the Happy Hour menu at The Chart House made me happy in Las Vegas. It’s located in the Golden Nugget Hotel downtown on Fremont Street.
We’re very familiar with the Happy Hour menu at the Chart House franchise. We used to have one several blocks from our Florida condo. In fact the Chart House franchise owner and billionaire restaurateur, Tilman Fertitta, used to dock his 40 million dollar yacht called The Boardwalk at the Fort Lauderdale Chart House. His family would cruise in from the Bahamas around Easter during their holiday vacation. (Click HERE for a tour of the amazing vessel on SuperYachtFan website.) It was fun to sit back and enjoy our Happy Hour while we watched his crew of twelve as they polished and painted and scrubbed the huge vessel. Heck, the crew even walked his little dog too!
Mr. Fertitta owns more restaurant franchises than I can count. His franchises include Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Morton’s Steakhouse, McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood and even the Golden Nugget Casinos. Unfortunately Mr. Fertitta closed the Fort Lauderdale Chart House last year to make way for his newest South Florida venture. He opened an ultra high end steak house in that space called Mastro’s. These old snowbirds will never set foot in the new restaurant since I’m told a dinner for two can cost upwards of $500! Mastro’s dress code is also said to be incredibly strict and inflexible. I’m anxious to see how many ultra wealthy, but very laid back yacht owners will appreciate being turned away when they show up for dinner in their usual Fort Lauderdale attire of flip flops or Sperry Docksiders. Time will tell.
But back to The Chart House location in Las Vegas.
The bar is the best place to sit to visit with other travelers, and the bartenders were friendly and fast. The view behind the bar was spectacular since the entire back wall is a giant aquarium filled with huge and colorful fish! It’s a peaceful and serene setting smack dab in the middle of crazy Las Vegas.
There are many delicious items on the Chart House Happy Hour menu, and we’ve tried most of them through the years. But my all time favorite is the Kim Chee Calamari. It is a plate full of happiness!
Those tiny, crispy squid are absolutely delicious, and the kimchee sauce is both sweet and tangy. They’re served on a bed of crispy rice noodles. The flavors and the different textures combine to make a fantastic dish. It’s a perfect dish to share, but I’ll admit I could eat the whole plate myself.
Another of our favorite appetizers is the homemade hummus platter. You’ll find three different types served with both pita bread and crispy fried plantains.
That dish is truly a rainbow on a plate, and the hummus is a light and healthy choice.
There are many other delicious options on that Happy Hour menu, but keep in mind it’s only served on weekdays. So if your travels land you in downtown Vegas during the week, that Chart House Happy Hour is a surefire happiness booster!
