If you love old signs, and diners, and little motels from the 1950’s…be sure you take a drive on Colfax Avenue in Denver…
It truly is a blast from the past! And Davie’s is a classic diner. From the food…
To the decor…
Turns out, this diner was shipped on a rail car from New Jersey…and it weighed 47 tons! It is said to be the Westernmost stainless steel original diner in America…
I will NEVER understand the layout of the women’s bathroom…
One toilet…and TWO SINKS! (Pretty in pink, for sure!)
And after that classic diner breakfast, we headed East…toward home…
And the vast expanse of Nebraska gave way to the wind farms of western Iowa…
It was mid-afternoon when we reached home, and I couldn’t wait to head to my kitchen…and COOK! (Isn’t that what EVERYONE wants to do after a two day car trip!??)
So first I headed to the store to stock up on fresh foods…and I threw together a comfort food meal to welcome us home…
Fresh green beans…(And a glass of wine for good measure!)
And fried chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and homemade cream gravy…
Ahhh…We LOVE to travel…and we had a WONDERFUL time with our friends and family!
But it’s always great to come home.
And the kitchen is the heart of MY home for me.
