I pride myself on wanting to learn new things. But for some reason, I have always been afraid to tackle a pomegranate. I’ve walked by them in the grocery store so many times…and I just kept on walking.
But the other day I decided to buy one. It’s been sitting in my fruit bowl for days…taunting me. And finally, today, I took the plunge. And like many things in life…seeding a pomegranate is MUCH easier than I thought it would be! (First rule…you don’t PEEL pomegranates…you simply remove the seeds…that’s the edible part of the fruit.)
I know the juice can stain cutting boards, etc. so I simply cut it IN the sink. I cut a small slice off the top, and then I cut it into four quarters. The seeds were simply waiting to be popped out. I turned each quarter inside out and guided the seeds into a bowl. Small bits of the peeling fell into the bowl along with the seeds. When I had all the seeds in the bowl I simply filled the bowl with cold water to cover the seeds and the bits of peeling floated right to the surface where I skimmed them right out of the bowl.
So here I sit with a bowl full of the tastiest morsels you can imagine.
(Please remind me of this experience the next time I’m afraid to try something new!)
