My “Bucket List” has been filled with many amazing places throughout my lifetime.
I’ve cruised from Athens to Rome…
I’ve been to Jerusalem and Bethlehem…I’ve cruised through the Panama Canal…and I’ve been to Alaska and the Caribbean almost more times than I can count.
But my latest Bucket List accomplishment happened earlier this winter when I celebrated my birthday lunch in Indianapolis, Indiana: I ate at Chef Michael Symon’s B Spot Burgers.
The decor is eclectic…and the place was spotless. It was everything I would expect from Iron Chef Michael Symon. (It’s All-Business and All-Fun rolled into one!)
And next, the FOOD. What to get with so many incredible choices?
Hubby ordered the SMASHER’S SPECIAL. (This burger selection changes monthly.)
It was a perfectly cooked burger topped with LOTS of yummy additions including melted cheese, arugula, tomato, prosciutto, and pickled onions. He loved it.
As soon as I saw it on the menu, I knew in a heartbeat I wanted to try the LOLA. (I’ve got a “thing” for eggs on burgers.)
A delicious burger with crunchy bacon and melted cheddar cheese…topped with pickled onions and a sunny side up egg…all absolutely, positively perfectly cooked. Simply the BEST BURGER I’VE EVER HAD. And in my 60+ years of burger-eating, that’s saying a whole lot.
I added a side of LOLA Fries. Super crispy, thin cut fries with rosemary – a total culinary home run. And when I found out those fries are cooked in LARD? Oh BABY!
(Is there lard in Heaven? I hope so. If not, there should be.)
Neither sandwich needed ANYTHING to enhance the flavors, but I simply had to taste these house-made sauces.
I especially loved the coffee BBQ sauce. And for you heat-seekers out there, try the Shasha Sauce!
…THE PICKLE BAR! What a fun addition to the restaurant. (I could almost hear Chef Symon and his crazy laugh.) My absolute favorite? TONY PACKO’S SWEET HOTS! I could’ve eaten a barrel of them!
Yes, Dear Readers…This was a meal I will remember for a long time. And the icing on the cake? Look who was on TV during our lunch!!
I felt like I was getting a special birthday greeting! (Thanks Chef Symon and the whole Chew Crew!)
And before we finished eating, B Spot’s General Manager Jessica stopped by our table to make sure we were happy with our experience.
Chef Symon should be very proud of his entire Indy staff…both in the kitchen and in the front of house.
So…were we happy? We were Totally Happy. Birthday Happy. Full Tummy Happy. It was a birthday lunch I’ll remember for a LONG time.
And that’s what makes this check-mark on my Bucket List so very special.
