I’m always ready to celebrate holidays…and when I realized July 25th is National Wine and Cheese Day I was ready to do my part to not let this holiday slip by unnoticed!
One of my favorite ways to entertain is to open some wine and to make a BIG charcuterie board for guests to share. So here are some of my favorite cheese boards I’ve written about over the years.
This one was served to friends at the Five Course Autumn Dinner I prepared with my foodie friend Jim. (We’re planning a six course Italian extravaganza later this year.)
This is one I prepared when two of our Florida neighbors made a visit to our Heartland home.
And speaking of that future Italian dinner…I prepared this little “snack” when Jim and I got together to plan that menu.
This board was a simple dinner with friends. (I think I went a little overboard since this was only the first course of our dinner that night!)
It’s important to serve several kinds of cheese on a charcuterie board since people have such different tastes. (I LOVE bleu cheese…but many people think it smells like dirty socks! UGH!)
A Florida friend brought these beautiful cheese skewer appetizers to a dinner at our condo. Gorgeous and absolutely delicious!
Some dear friends from the Heartland paid us a Florida visit, and I was thrilled to find out they also enjoy the “grazing” method of dining.
How about this beautiful stack of aged Parmigiano-Reggiano drizzled with a thick, sweet balsamic glaze paired with a Pinot Noir from Remy Wines in McMinnville, Oregon. (Watch for more Oregon winery reviews later this summer. We’re heading back again, God willing!)
And speaking of Oregon…I prepared this little snack for our good friends at our McMinnville Airbnb cottage during our last visit there. These boards don’t have to be fancy, and when you’re sharing with friends it’s ALL good.
When you add a beautiful view and a family visit to a plate of cheese it’s hard to pass up.
From looking at water to floating on it, cheese and wine are truly a match made in heaven like this offering on our friend’s catamaran.
I hope these photos help you find a delicious way to celebrate this holiday.
Cheers!

Patty, I love the colorful and at times poetic way in which you describe your creations. You are a wizzard at painting a picture and creating an atmosphere with words. My fav part of your newsletter and blog!
