Most Iowa City “locals” have fond memories of Hungry Hobo…a Riverside Drive landmark. But times have changed…and owner Tim Flynn has left the franchise logo behind and has re-named his popular spot. It’s now called Timmy Flynn’s Red Pepper Deli & Grill. http://redpepperdeliandgrill.com/
We just stopped in to check it out, and we’re happy to report his menu is even better than before..and that’s saying something! From hot and cold sandwiches to stuffed baked potatoes to salads and party trays…Timmy Flynn’s offers the highest quality ingredients and great value in a virtual “shrine” devoted to Hawkeye posters and memorabilia.
I ordered a Reuben On Rye Sandwich, and it was AWESOME. My first thought was of the QUALITY of ingredients. You would expect to pay $10-$12 for this sandwich in many deli restaurants…and my bill was $3.69! The corned beef is super high quality, and the rye bread made me think I was in our favorite Jewish deli in Florida.
And I can’t write about this spot without mentioning the owner himself. Tim Flynn seems to know EVERYONE who walks through his door. (Maybe it’s his Irish roots??) He makes it a point to make sure every diner is happy with their food. And they are happy…Believe me.
