I was reminiscing the other day about our fun trip to the Rose Bowl and Las Vegas, and I realized I hadn’t posted about this fun memory on Meemaw Eats. Hope you enjoy! -Meemaw

For some reason, our sons were determined to “dine” at a Las Vegas BUFFET during our recent trip, and it didn’t take long to find one downtown on Fremont Street at Paradise Buffet & Cafe at The Fremont Casino and Hotel.
I think you can blame our sons’ craving on Cousin Eddie and Clark Griswold and that famous buffet scene in the hilarious movie Vegas Vacation, when Cousin Eddie said: “I’ll have some of the yella…”
(Actually…in all fairness to the buffet, that photo was mustard. But I just couldn’t resist!)
The array of foods offered was quite impressive, but at $17 per person for the meal, I will be the first to tell you…the NUMBER of dishes on the buffet was much greater than the QUALITY of the food in those dishes. But I guess that’s to be expected in this case, since Vegas is a gamble on many levels, including the food.
And I’m not sure we broke even on this bet. Especially since one of our sons noticed a sign at the restaurant entrance that said “Ninety Minute Limit.”
I can assure you we weren’t planning on “dining” for that long…but I think our laughter about that sign might have pushed the limit.
We happened to arrive on “All You Can Eat Steak Night” and the chef told me he was grilling New York Strips. I’m glad he told me what they were, since those steaks in no way resembled the prime cuts of beef we’re accustomed to in the Midwest. But my guys grabbed some anyway, and fought their way through the gristle. I’m sure Cousin Eddie would have been proud.
I took a REAL gamble on some sushi. But it actually turned out to be very good…and very fresh!
All in all, it was definitely an experience!
But just being together with my hubby and sons that night was better than any five star meal we could have eaten anywhere else. Because sometimes it’s not the food you eat, it’s the people you share it with that makes it a meal to remember.
