When I’m looking for a decadent snack to serve to our little grand kids, I sometimes make a sweet treat I remember fondly from my childhood.
When my Grandma Grady was in her 90’s, she spent the summer months with us on our farm. And while my mother went to her job at the post office, she hired an Amish girl to come to our house to take care of Grandma, (and me!) and to prepare some of our meals. And since PIE is a common component of many Amish meals, “Little Mary” could be found rolling out pie dough on many summer afternoons.
Mary always remembered to end up with “some extra dough”…and THAT would always become a real treat for my brother and me.
Sometimes she would top the dough with jam, and roll it up. Then she would cut the rolled dough into little pinwheels of deliciousness which she would bake. The house smelled amazing.
Other times she would do what I did today. (But rest assured I “cheated” and used pie dough from the refrigerated section of the grocery store.)
But today the house still smelled like Mary’s magical pies…
How to make the snack?
Roll out the pie dough onto a cookie sheet, and spray the dough with cooking spray.
