Remy Wines is a small urban winery in McMinnville, Oregon. The owner, Remy Drabkin, started the winery in 2006, and she has earned a reputation as a top producer of non-traditional grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Barbera, Lagrein and Dolcetto. (In fact, it’s been rumored that Remy knew she wanted to be a winemaker…when she was in the third grade!)
Remy Wines is a premium brand sourced from a single vineyard and are 100% varietal. (And her Three Wives label offers several affordable and memorable wines that won’t break the bank for this old Meemaw on a fixed income.)
I am no wine expert, and I don’t claim to be…but I know what I like. And I love to pair wines with various foods to see how the flavors can compliment each other.
A stop at Remy Wines always includes a glass of Three Wives Remy’s Red for me.
I tried this food and wine combination when we visited two years ago, and I couldn’t wait to order an encore. That lovely, fruity Remy’s Red…
And a plate of salty, tangy Parmesan cheese…drizzled with a Balsamic reduction.
That wine and the salty, tangy cheese are a match made in heaven.
Good food…good friends…and good wine!
What a wonderful way to spend some time on a beautiful Sunday afternoon!
I love the decor at the baR (pronounced R-bar) tasting room at Remy Wines.
It’s totally casual and unpretentious, as are most of the wineries and tasting rooms we visited in the Willamette Valley. And most of the owners are even hands-on and accessible, as you’ll see in some of my future winery reviews. That’s a really good thing for those of us who are novice wine tasters who want to learn more about the grape varieties, the wines, and the wine making process itself.
I stepped out the back door of baR to check out the patio area, and I realized we would not be the only visitors that afternoon.
Remy’s partner was out back, preparing for an event to honor some of Remy Wines Wine Club members who would be gathering later.
What a perfect setting for the event…
As I stepped back inside I saw the foods that had been prepared to serve with the wines at the Members Only wine tasting event… Oohhhh….MY……
That plate of golden olive oil and those huge olives were calling my name…”Meemaw…Meemaw”…
I tore myself away from that table of temptation and headed back to our table where we began to gather our belongings to head out on the road once more.
Remy Wines was a wonderful stop on our Road Trip adventure.
