We LOVE small towns. We stumbled onto Sycamore, Illinois several years ago, and we were anxious to go back. We pulled into town and were sad to see parking meters everywhere…but our sadness turned to laughter when Peepaw dropped in a DIME and got TWO HOURS of parking!

And our room was spacious and comfortable…
And we were THRILLED to see THIS sign at the front desk…
Our room was on the third floor, and I really wonder if there were any other guests in the whole hotel during our stay. (We saw no one else.) But now might be a good time to share the news that the Jane Fargo Hotel is said to be….HAUNTED. (Luckily I didn’t dwell on that fact when we returned to the empty third floor after dark!)
We were disappointed with the nearly non-functioning TV. It was a new flat-screen model, but the satellite channels were not properly programmed for viewing. (Hmm…maybe it WAS ghosts!)
And the wireless Internet service was not functional when we arrived. I asked for help at the front desk and someone on the staff offered to reboot the system. After some “tinkering” with the system, I was finally able to write and publish a blog post, but when I tried to get back online the next morning it was not working again! That glitch must be corrected since so many people now depend on Internet service in their daily activities.
Again, we love the old hotel and we adore the location. I only hope the Jane Fargo can survive and thrive without being swallowed up by a cookie cutter hotel chain.
