After a wonderful Christmas stay in Indiana we packed the car (FULL…AGAIN!) and headed South, with our eventual goal of Tampa for the Outback Bowl on January 1st. When lunch time rolled around we found ourselves ready to explore….and we wandered off the road (not literally) into Franklin, KY. It was like stepping into the movie set of “Back to the Future”. The town square was picturesque and all decked out for Christmas. Something you don’t see if you stick to the freeways of America…
Our waitress was kind and helpful, but the menu lacked anything exciting. We each finally ordered a burger and it was seasoned beautifully. I asked for Medium/Well, but when she brought it to the table…she also brought THE COOK! He wanted to ask me personally if it was cooked correctly! It was actually more to the Medium/Rare stage of doneness, so he quickly took it back to redo it. When the waitress brought it back to our table, the cook again stuck his head out of the kitchen and asked if it was cooked correctly. (It was.) Quite amazing…and something you wouldn’t see in a franchise establishment, for sure.
We left the small restaurant feeling glad that we had again done our part to help keep another Mom and Pop restaurant in business. And we got FULL STOMACHS in the bargain.
