The Inn At Stone Mill. Where do I begin?
When researching a place to stay in Little Falls I stumbled across this picturesque inn. First off, let’s just say I was hooked before I even contacted the place. Old hotels. Rustic hotels. I adore the history of the old buildings and I only wish the walls could talk.
This inn sounded like the kind of place that is worth the drive…from almost anywhere.
(Spoiler Alert-It was!)
Some History – The Inn At Stone Mill
First of all, THEIR WEBSITE is filled with loads of interesting information. The historic, nine room riverfront inn is located on the third floor of a former 19th century mill on the banks of the beautiful Mohawk River. (The building is the oldest structure in the historic district.) The mill eventually became a textile mill, creating cloth for the Mexican-American War and the Civil War! Later, the mill produced uniforms for our soldiers in World War II. I’m quite sure the beautiful rushing waters of the Mohawk River probably powered the original machines inside. And that river now provides a gorgeous view from many of the suites. The historic building is the PERFECT site for a bed and breakfast!
Now if you’re like Peepaw and me, Covid has changed our lives and our travel plans in huge ways. So we were looking for a place where we could limit our contact with folks and yet still satisfy our sense of adventure.
Making A Reservation…
My phone call to the inn was quickly answered by sweet innkeeper Marica Bellico-Brodock. Marica’s lilting accent soon gave away her Italian heritage. (She is originally from Naples, Italy.) I shared my concerns about crowds and close contact with other folks but, thanks to Marica, I soon realized The Inn At Stone Mill would be the PERFECT place to meet all my social distancing requirements.
Indeed, our drive to New York was a pleasant and scenic trip.
First, it fulfilled a huge Bucket List experience for Peepaw. (Read about our stop at the Baseball Hall Of Fame.)
But personally, I was most excited about our destination of Little Falls and the Inn At Stone Mill.
Checking In At The Inn…
When we arrived in Little Falls we were a little confused as to where the hotel entrance was, since the main door of the building shows it’s the entrance to the UPS Store. So Peepaw headed in on a reconnaissance mission.
It turns out that the hotel elevator is also located inside that entrance in a small lobby. And those hanging bikes were a hint that this inn is located on a bike trail that is used by MANY riders. The Inn even provides two vintage bicycles for guests to borrow. Those bikes were actually manufactured right there in Little Falls between the 1890’s and the mid 1970’s! You can read all about those bikes and that story right HERE.
We stepped into the elevator and we were quickly whisked up to the third floor.
The inn’s spacious and tasteful lobby welcomed us.
I appreciated the industrial vibe of the space, and I could only imagine the whirring machines that once cranked out Civil War uniforms in that space!
We were warmly greeted by the hotel manager and innkeeper Marica who quickly checked us in and showed us around the common area/conference room where complimentary breakfast and 24 hour snacks and drinks could be found.
The Inn At Stone Mill was absolutely spotless, and the attention to every detail that could enhance the guest experience was well planned and executed to the fullest. Every detail. We instantly felt right at home…and quite welcome. Our partially-hosted stay was about to begin!
Marica escorted us to the Allegro Suite…our home for the next few days. My research has since uncovered the fact that the Allegro room is named after the Allegro Shoe Company, started in 1949. That company manufactured “ladies play shoes” and employed between one and two thousand people in a nearby building! The site of that now-demolished factory has since been transformed into a park…all within walking distance to the Inn.
The Inn At Stone Mill – Amenities Galore
As soon as Marica unlocked the door to our room I began to notice all the luxury touches that are provided at The Inn At Stone Mill…beginning with the crisp white bathrobes hanging right inside the door.
Our cozy surroundings were flooded with light, even on a cloudy, rainy day.
My first impression? Everything in those rooms was SPOTLESS. I can honestly say I have never stayed in a hotel room that was cleaner or more welcoming.
The Inn even provides wine glasses! (Extra points from Meemaw…even though I usually bring my own!) ๐
The spotless bathroom was updated and well stocked.
Everything was clean as a whistle!
And Kinu/Beekman 1802 soaps and lotions were provided as well.
Also check out these plush towels.
Yes, The Inn At Stone Mill had thought of everything that could make our stay a comfortable, safe, and relaxing one…even during a pandemic!
A Room With A View…
Just how relaxing you ask? Take a look outside our huge windows.
The Mohawk River was cascading directly below our room!
The rushing waters spilling over the rocks in that river provided a perfect “white noise” to put us into a peaceful state of mind. Even on a gray and rainy day it was a beautiful view. Indeed, that sound was mesmerizing.
Of course it wasn’t long before Peepaw found the perfect spot to take it all in. (That wide window sill became his home away from home very quickly!)
But before he could get TOO comfortable I informed him I was starving and I knew exactly where I wanted to go for lunch. It didn’t even require going back out in the rain. So we headed right back downstairs to the Cafe At Stone Mill. And THAT turned out to be a very good choice on that rainy Tuesday afternoon in Little Falls. A very good choice indeed.
You’ll see!

Great Tour of the Inn. But why were you there?
Was it to see the baseball Hall of Fame?
Meemaw says
Thanks Robin! But NO…You need to back up in my blog posts to find that answer! Check out my post entitled “Bar Stool Conversations Can Lead To Great Adventures” to find THAT answer! (But the Baseball Hall of Fame was on the way so of course we stopped there too!) ๐ And be sure to sign up for my blog newsletter so you won’t be out of the loop again! I have MANY more adventures still to share from that great trip. Happy Reading!! ๐
