Fort Lauderdale is also known as “The Venice Of America”, since there are more canals running through our winter home than there are in Venice, Italy!
I took these pictures as we crossed the drawbridge on a walk to the beach…about an eight minute stroll…
This is the main channel of the Intracoastal Waterway. (It’s our freeway) |
You can travel to almost any city on the Eastern Seaboard by boat from this waterway! Amazing…
The canal system is amazing… |
So this main channel is the “freeway”, and our condo is located on the first “water street” to the left in this picture….turn left in front of the white building. And notice the very tall mast of the huge sailboat docked in the next canal. (Now you can see why the drawbridge has to raise to let some of these vessels through.)
Boats and water are a way of life here…and it’s a life we love!
