The OBX.
Until several months ago I’m not sure if I had ever heard that letter combination. (And I was even a travel agent in my past life!) But that changed in a hurry one day when one of our sons and his wife told us about their plans.
They were on a search for an investment property that our entire family could also enjoy. And their search eventually led them to here. To the Outer Banks of North Carolina…also known as the OBX.
We’re Along For The Ride!
We decided to become investors in their dream. And that investment dream led us all to this gorgeous home in Corolla, North Carolina. (Pronounced Cor-RAH-lah by the locals.)
So our snowbird stay in Fort Lauderdale was cut shorter than usual, and last month we headed North to pitch in to help transform this five bedroom, 4 1/2 bath house into our family’s investment dream home in Corolla. And just wait until I tell you all about this area. There are even wild horses roaming the sand dunes just a few miles North of us!
I’ll wait to share the home’s interior and the property details until Peepaw puts down his paintbrush and our son and his wife have finished working their design magic. But just know it will be a home where ANY family or group of 12-14 friends will be able to make memories…one week at a time.
My Favorite Spot? The Crow’s Nest!
All three decks face the ocean, and the other side of the home faces the Sound. So we’re basically surrounded by water. (It’s less than a ten minute walk to the beach!) And check out that Crow’s Nest, towering four stories above the ground!
It’s the PERFECT vantage point to watch TWO amazing productions, hosted daily by Mother Nature.
OBX Beauty…From Sunrise To Sunset
In the morning, I watch the sunrise out over the ocean.
And in the evening? The sunsets over the Sound are incredible!
Cheers! To The OBX!
In fact I’ve already been known to salute that beautiful sunset with a great glass of Cabernet…four stories up in our Crow’s Nest perch.
Yes…I’m sometimes sipping while Peepaw keeps on painting. But don’t fret! I always have a delicious dinner waiting for him when he’s finished. Don’t believe me?? Head over to my Meemaw Eats Facebook Page to see some of the meals he’s been enjoying the past few weeks. I promise he’s NOT starving while I sip my wine!
But as much as I love the Crow’s Nest, there is something in the house I love even more.
My FAVORITE Thing? The ELEVATOR!!!
As some of you know…I’m struggling these days with knees that feel older than dirt! So when I learned that our OBX house has an elevator?? I jumped for joy! Well…not really. That would have hurt my knees! But that elevator will be PERFECT for multi-generational families who may have a person with mobility issues. So yes…that elevator has already been a godsend to me!
Follow Me On Facebook
Because we are so busy right now I won’t be adding more posts here for awhile, but please do this for me. Head to Facebook and follow my Meemaw Eats Facebook page right now! And follow me also on Instagram! That way you can see more of my day to day photos and you’ll stay connected with our OBX adventure. That’s until I can take time to write and post interior photos and details here on my website.
Yes, the OBX isn’t just three letters. It’s a real place…where family dreams can become a reality.
So come along on our ride!

Thank you Vicky! The transformation is amazing to witness! It was a beautiful home when we bought it. And it is going to be even more amazing when our “kid’s” design plan is completed! Every day makes it even more incredible!
