Winter means different things to different parts of America.
If you’re up North, it means cold temps and snow, but down South it means a break from beastly hot temps and the summertime humidity. But no matter what weather you find outside your door, a pot of soup can be the perfect one pot wonder! I’ll be happy to share some of my favorite soup recipes with you.
November brought an early bout of snow to our Iowa home, and we were still there to “enjoy” it.
When we mention “Iowa Nice” this photo says it all. Before Peepaw could even put on his boots and grab his shovel, our awesome neighbor Rick showed up. And he made that eight inch snowfall disappear!
Before he was finished I hurried outside to hand him a container of my WINTER WARM UP CHILI I had simmering on the stove. It was a small token of our appreciation.
That snow was beautiful to look at…from inside our house.
Our winter here in South Florida looks a little different.
It’s just a twelve minute walk to the beach…
We have beautiful sunsets right outside our door.
I’m sure nothing can prepare the folks back home in Iowa for the forecast for this coming Wednesday.
That’s right. The ACTUAL temperature is expected to be -25 degrees and the Wind Chill -51 degrees!!!
I am fearful for the health and well being of ALL who are in the path of this bitter cold. All humans and animals will be at risk!
There is no magic potion to make survival any easier, but may I suggest that you make a BIG pot of soup. There is something about that simmering pot on the stove that can make any day just a little better. And I suggest you head to the Index on my website, or simply Google these three words…Meemaw Eats Soup. I think you’ll find many of my soup recipes that just might help to take the bitter edge off of the temps.
Please let me know what recipes you choose, and I am even making a big pot of chili this afternoon, right here in the tropics.
Because you can take Meemaw out of the Heartland Winter. But you can’t take the Heartland Winter out of this old Meemaw.
